1:1 4-Week Pottery Course (July)
The aim of this course is to help you build confidence on the potter’s wheel. Over the span of four sessions, you will learn essential pottery techniques and gain hands-on experience in creating and decorating your pieces. By the end of the course, you will have a finished piece that showcases your newly acquired skills.
Course Overview:
Session 1: Throwing a Cylindrical Vessel
Date: Sunday, 6th July 2025 at 10am
This session begins with a demonstration by Fi. You will learn the basics of throwing a cylindrical vessel, focusing on creating even walls and a consistent shape. Fi will provide guidance as you get hands-on with the wheel.
Session 2: Throwing a Curved Vessel
Date: Sunday, 13th July 2025 at 10am
In this session, Fi will demonstrate the techniques required to throw a curved vessel, a form that requires a slightly different approach compared to the cylindrical shape. You’ll practice creating curves and learning how to refine your vessel.
Session 3: Turning Your Pieces
Date: Sunday, 20th July 2025 at 10am
In this session, Fi will guide you through the turning process, where you’ll refine your thrown pieces by trimming and smoothing the base and sides with metal tools for a more polished look. You will personalise your pieces by stamping your name into the base of your pieces.
Session 4: Decorating with Slip
Date: Sunday, 27th July 2025 at 10am
In this final session, you will discover decorating techniques using coloured slip (liquid clay). Fi will guide you through applying slip to your pieces, and you will have the opportunity to add personal design touches. Be sure to bring some inspiration, whether it's from printed images or a Pinterest board.
After your final session
Once your pieces are completely dried out, they will be bisque fired and then glazed with a transparent glaze before being fired again. This process will take approximately 8 weeks. You will be notified by email when your pieces are ready for collection.
Details:
Each session will begin at 10am and last between 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on how long it takes to complete your pieces. With Fi’s experience and guidance, you will finish the course with pieces you're proud of.
